As an alternative to orthopedic surgery tele-advice, providers in the Calgary Zone can submit an eReferral eConsult request for orthopaedic surgery and will receive a response back from a specialist within five calendar days. Providers can submit for the following:

Ankle issue, elbow issue, foot issue, hip issue, knee issue, shoulder issue, and wrist issue

  • Osteo-arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or other inflammatory conditions for interim management suggestions
  • New or undiagnosed concerns with foot and ankle, wrist, shoulders, hip and or knee problems
  • Help diagnosing a condition or injury or to discuss issues related to surgical conditions

Please note: Acute fractures within four weeks of injury should be directed to the orthopaedic surgeons on call at the sites through the Regional On Call Application (ROCA) as they often require a cast clinic follow up.

- Pediatric orthopaedics questions should be directed to the Alberta Children's Hospital (on-call ortho)

- Hand/carpal issues go to plastics or South Health Campus hand on-call

- Spine issues to Foothills Medical Centre spine (on-call)

- Acute injuries to orthopaedics on call

- Acute fractures within four weeks of injury should be directed to the orthopaedic surgeons on call at the sites through the Regional On Call Application (ROCA) as they often require a cast clinic follow up.
